~ Lopaka DeVoe ~
Lopaka, your poem starts with generosity and surveillance in balance – then veers into extortion when fortune tilts. That turn reveals something honest: neighbourliness hinges on felt fairness, not virtue. When reciprocity breaks, resentment fills the gap – suddenly we’re minding their minds rather than minding our hedges. Good neighbours tend toward equanimity, not scorecards.
