[ Your Dog Started Dying ]
[ Little By Little & Pound By Pound ]
[ You Found ]
[ That Something Inside Of Her Was Killing Her, But She Never Made A Sound ]
[ You Never Knew What Kind Of Trauma She Went Through ]
[ Before She Ever Set A Paw Down In Your House ]
[ It Is So Cruel What Some People Do ]
[ But Even Through Her Abuse, She Probably Stayed As Quiet As A Small Field Mouse ]
[ It Probably Wasn’t A Voluntary Choice ]
[ For Her To Not Use Her Voice ]
[ You Have No Idea What Happened When She Used To Bark ]
[ Maybe She Was Punished Because A Past Owner Thought That When She Did It Only Sounded Like Noise ]
[ That Owner Told You That Roxie Was (5yrs) Old ]
[ When You Later Took Her To The ‘Vet ]
[ You Found Out Her Age Was Closer To (8), You Felt That Last Owner Was Really Bold ]
[ Because Lying To You To Get Rid Of Roxie, Was Pretty Cold ]
[ The Night That You Got Her, She Never Even Made The Slightest Sound ]
[ Because You Did Not Hear Anything When You Got Up In The Middle Of The Night ]
[ You Thought You Would Look Around ]
[ You Really Wondered Where Your New Dog Would Be Found ]
[ It Did Not Take You Long To Find Her, But You Were Astonished @ The Sight ]
[ She Was Curled Up On Your Recliner Chair ]
[ In A Deep ]
[ Sleep! ]
[ That Was Where You Usually Sat, But She Seemed To Not Care ]
[ Or Maybe She Actually Did ]
[ Maybe That Was The Point ]
[ You Smiled Like A Little Kid ]
[ You Actually Wondered If She Jumped Up & Went To Sleep Because That Was Where You Were Sitting When The (2) Of You Met? ]
[ You Actually Wondered, “How Much Better Can This New Situation Get?” ]
[ If You Were To Wager That It Wouldn’t ]
[ The Other Person Would Still Be Laughing Because You Would Really Lose That Bet ]
[ You Shouldn’t ]
[ Have Thought That She Did Not Want To Sleep Some Place Where She Could FINALLY Have A Peaceful Rest ]
[ & She Couldn’t ]
[ Have Figured Out The Place That Was Best? ]
[ You Failed To See ]
[ @ The Time ]
[ That She Already Figured Out Who She Wanted Her Person To Be ]
[ It Would Have Also Been A Crime ]
[ If She Did Not Also Feel Free ]
[ Free From ANY Abuse ]
[ Free From ANY Bad Excuse ]
[ Free From ANY Adult Being Around Her That Was Very Obtuse ]
[ About Why She Got Hit, Shocked Or Given A Hard Kick ]
[ The Thought About The Amount Of Abuse She Might Have Suffered ]
[ Really Made Your Stomach Sick ]
[ One Thing That You Are Sure ]
[ Roxie Was The Sweetest, Friendliest, Quietest Animal With Fur ]
[ She Was So Quiet ]
[ & Her Heart Was Pure ]
[ That Owner Was In A Hurry To Put Her In A Different Home ]
[ She Told You That We Could Have Her For A (3) Night Trial Basis ]
[ You Knew That It Would Take Awhile Before Her True Personality Would Be Shown ]
[ Alot Of Things About Her Past Was Unknown ]
[ So That Owner Left, After Telling You To Text Her On The Phone ]
[ (2) Days Later You Text That Owner To Let Her Know ]
[ That We Wanted Roxie To Stay ]
[ That We Never Wanted To Let Her Go ]
[ Once She Started To Feel Comfortable Her Personality Came Out ]
[ There Was Not A Single Doubt ]
[ That She Never Would Sit Around & Pout ]
[ Again ]
[ Because It Would Have Been A Sin ]
[ If You Did Not Show When The Love Would Begin ]
[ Everynight You Would Give Her Daddy Time & Get Down With Her On The Floor ]
[ You Wouldn’t Stop ]
[ Even If There Was A Knock On The Door ]
[ But Everything Changed When You Were In The Hospital To Have Surgery On Your Spine ]
[ Roxie Started To Become Ill ]
[ So Your Wife Told You, “No, Everything Is Not Fine” ]
[ Roxie Was Getting Sick After Eating ]
[ But Nothing Had Changed With Her Feedings ]
[ Since She Wouldn’t Make A Sound, You Never Knew What She Was Feeling ]
[ Getting This News Felt So Defeating ]
[ We Then Took Her To The ‘Vet ]
[ For Some Blood Work & Other Tests ]
[ Everything Began To Get Hazy ]
[ The Tests Came Back Fine ]
[ But She Kept Losing Weight Like Crazy ]
[ The ‘Vet Said There Was Nothing They Could Do ]
[ Your Fear Grew ]
[ Because Nobody Had A Clue ]
[ When She Stopped Eating All Together ]
[ & She Became As Light As A Feather ]
[ Her Weight Was The Lightest Ever ]
[ You Made The Hardest Call To The ‘Vet To Make That Dreaded Appointment ]
[ Because Roxie’s Energy Level Was So Spent ]
[ It Was Like Roxie Knew What This Meant ]
[ When We Took Roxie To The ‘Vet, She Was So Lethargic ]
[ & Sick ]
[ You Wish The ‘Vet Had Some Kind Of Trick ]
[ From Which She Could Pick ]
[ To Make Roxie Feel All Better, But That Was Not To Be ]
[ When We All Went Into A Room ]
[ The ‘Vet Could See ]
[ & It Became The Hardest Decision We Could Make ]
[ This Would Be The Last Time That You Would Ever See Roxie Awake ]
[ Roxie Laid Down On The Blanket ]
[ Because She Felt So Tired ]
[ & She Looked Like She Was Set ]
[ You Knew That It Is So Hard To Say Goodbye To A Loving Pet ]
[ We Were Only Able To Have Her (9mo’s) ]
[ This Was Ripping Out Your Guts ]
[ When The ‘Vet Mentioned Cheese ]
[ She Raised Her Head Off The Blanket Then Went To Her Knees ]
[ She Looked @ The ‘Vet As If Saying, “Oh, Yes Please!” ]
[ That Caused Everyone In The Room To Laugh ]
[ That Really Cut The Tension In The Room In ½ ]
[ The ‘Vet Came In & Gave Her The Shot That Made Her Go To Sleep For The Last Time ]
[ So This Is Where You Have To End This Rhyme ]
